Child Rights Movement Meeting October 10th 2017

The Child Rights Movement conducted a meeting with Mr. Babar Nawaz, Member of the National Assembly, regarding child rights violation in Pakistan and the international commitments that the country has ratified and signed. The meeting was attended by ARC Senior Grants Officer Ashima Hussain; the discussion was centered on legislative steps that are needed to have child protections mechanisms in place. Child rights violation at various levels, such as Child trafficking, Child Labour, Right to Education, Girl Child Marriage, Juvenile Justice System and the need for a Child Protection Bill were part of the agenda. CRM appreciated and acknowledged the efforts by Mr. Babar Nawaz on human rights during his tenure. Furthermore, it was requested that the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance (JJSO) and ITC Child Protection Bill should be tabled in the National Assembly. CRM movements has played a vital role in the development and advocacy for the said legislation. The meeting concluded with a commitment from Mr. Babar Nawaz to contribute in improving the situation of child rights in Pakistan.
